Before the Food Network, there was the Great Chefs series. By modern standards, it’s pretty dry, but it had one thing that nobody else can match: Mary Lou Conroy. She narrated much of the cooking process for the audience (especially when the chefs didn’t speak English) and has pretty much the most mellifluous voice ever captured on tape. I would listen to her read the phone book, if that was still a thing. In the first 5 seconds of this video, she speaks my favorite word to hear her say: pepper. Excuse me: pep-pah. The only thing that I might love hearing her say more is butt-ah.
